Appellation Marlborough Wine

What does that actually even mean? As it turns out, it means a great deal to us at Huia Vineyards.

When you buy a bottle of wine your choice is often driven by the variety, a price point and then perhaps an appealing label. You put your trust in the producer that everything that is offered on the outside of the bottle is, in fact, what you’ll find on the inside.

It’s why Huia wines have the BioGro Organic certification logo on the bottle. We believe in the benefits of farming organically and have enough conviction to be certified. It gives you confidence that we’ve done what we said we’d do.

There is another such logo that we hold in equally high importance and you’ll find it on the back label of our Sauvignon Blanc.

Appellation Marlborough Wine was introduced and trademark registered in 2018 to safeguard Marlborough Wine, initially focused on Sauvignon Blanc, whose purity and flavour intensity has earned it a phenomenal global reputation.

With this global demand, comes the proliferation of players and a range of quality expectations, which can put this hard-earned reputation at risk. AMW has been established to safeguard Marlborough wine for future generations to enjoy and provide assurance to consumers who seek wines of provenance, authenticity and integrity.

The wines that proudly carry the AMW icon on their label, guarantee they are wines of provenance, made with integrity and bottled in New Zealand. The AMW icon is the only guarantee a wine is 100% pure Marlborough. Nothing else, no exceptions.’ — AMW website.

Huia Vineyards is exceptionally proud of what we make. We know our Sauvignon Blanc has found a special place in the hearts of our wine fans all over the world. Our country and region has become so well known for this special variety, that much of our industry still depends upon it for our income and our reputation. Huia Vineyards is no exception. This important little grape holds our past, present and future within its gently acerbic, golden green skin.

Securing the reputation or quality is vital to ensure Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc remains highly regarded around the globe and is not diluted by inferior versions claiming to be something they are not.

Through its success, Sauvignon Blanc has afforded us the chance to innovate, experiment and have fun with other wine varieties and wine growing and winemaking techniques. This champion variety opens doors to international markets for us and reflects just how unique our place is for premium wine production.

The moniker Appellation Marlborough Wine is not only deserved but is imperative to the protection of this wonderful variety and the clarification of just how important we believe it is and how much we love it ourselves. It is an emblem of quality and assurance.

If you love Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc too, no matter the winery, demand it carries the AMW logo.
